Premier John Brumby and Olivia Newton-John visited the Austin Hospital on Monday to announce the funding for the final stage of the cancer and wellness centre.
Mr Brumby said the centre would include 32 haematology beds, 32 oncology beds and 28 palliative care beds.
It will provide the latest treatment and care to Victorians diagnosed with cancer as well as become the home to important clinical trials to help patients,” Mr Brumby said. “We have already committed $93.9 million for the first stages and the latest stage will complete the centre, expanding the network of Victoria’s extensive cancer treatment centres.He also unveiled a $138 million cancer plan including a UV campaign to prevent skin cancer.
Ms Newton-John said the funding announcement for her centre was a “dream come true”.
